The Verdale tree is characterized by vigorous growth and an upright crown. The variety is late-ripening: mass harvesting occurs in the second half of October, sometimes extending into November depending on the climatic conditions of the growing region.
The fruits of the variety are medium-sized and elliptical in shape, possessing good flavor qualities. Verdale is used in commercial horticulture and is also frequently used as an effective pollinator variety for other chestnuts, such as Belle Epine and Précoce Migoule.
