The variety forms a large rosette of elongated leaves with a wide leaf blade, which distinguishes it from varieties with dissected leaves. The plant possesses the ability for rapid regeneration, which allows for multiple harvests when cut at the base.

The leaves are characterized by a bitter taste. The crop is used in cooking for preparing salads, stewing, boiling, or baking, often as a side dish for meat dishes or pasta. The variety is traditionally associated with the Veneto region and is also known as Catalogna del Veneto.
