The plant has an upright habit and an open rosette form. The leaves are dark green, serrated, with prominent white ribs. The weight of a marketable plant is about 0.7–1.0 kg, and the vegetation period lasts 80–85 days.

The variety has a moderately bitter taste. Young leaves are used fresh for salads; mature specimens are suitable for heat treatment. The shoots (puntarelle) are characterized by a crunchy texture and are valued as a standalone product.

The plants are distinguished by good uniformity. The variety is a traditional type characteristic of the Apulia region and is often used for the production of authentic regional products.
