The variety originated as a spontaneous bud mutation of the common 'Avana' mandarin in the Ciaculli area, Italy. The tree reaches a height of about 3 meters, the canopy is dense and spreading, and branches may have small thorns. The leaves are small, narrow, lanceolate, and emit a fragrance when crushed.

Fruits are medium-sized, rounded, slightly flattened, with a thin, easily separable orange peel. The pulp is juicy, sweet with a slight acidity and a pronounced aroma. The number of seeds in the fruits varies, with almost seedless specimens occurring.

The variety is late-maturing, with the harvest ripening from February to April. The plant is capable of withstanding short-term temperature drops down to -8°C. A tendency toward alternate bearing is noted, and the first harvests are possible 2–3 years after grafting.
