The plant is a multi-stemmed deciduous woody vine with a height of 40 to 120 cm. The flowers are star-shaped, bright red in color, sometimes with a bluish tint, and complemented by contrasting yellow stamens.

The variety belongs to pruning group 3, as flowering occurs on current-year shoots. The flowering periods occur in late spring to early summer, as well as late summer to early autumn. The plant possesses winter hardiness within USDA zones 4–9 and resistance to typical garden diseases.
