The Borsamele variety is an ancient local genotype formed through folk selection. There are two main forms: Borsamele bianco with white skin and honey-colored flesh, and Borsamele nero with black skin, distributed primarily in the province of Brindisi.

The plant belongs to single-crop varieties, producing only the main crop; formation of breba occurs rarely. The main crop fruits have a medium size and an oblate shape. The tree leaves have 3 to 5 lobes.

The fruits are primarily consumed fresh and are also traditionally used for drying. The variety has no specific agrotechnical requirements.
