The Brown Turkey variety has been known since the 18th century and has many regional names. The tree is characterized as fast-growing, sparse, and relatively winter-hardy for this crop, reaching a height of 4–6 meters in European conditions.

The plant is self-fertile and generally fruits twice a year: the first crop (breba) is insignificant, the second is more abundant. The fruits have light brown or purple-brown skin and reddish flesh with a sweet taste. The variety is considered low-maintenance, but is prone to viral diseases.

The fruits are used fresh; the plant is suitable for cultivation in open field, greenhouses, and containers.
