Summit is the first semi-dwarf hop variety in the USA intended for cultivation on low-trellis systems and belongs to mid-season maturity varieties. Yield is 2200–3000 kg/ha. The variety is resistant to powdery mildew, Verticillium wilt, and Phytophthora root rot, but susceptible to downy mildew.
The alpha-acid content is 13.0–18.0%. The aromatic profile includes citrus notes (tangerine, grapefruit, orange) and spicy-herbal undertones (wild garlic, onion, black pepper, cedar, tomato leaf, celery). The variety is noted for excellent storage stability.
The primary purpose is use as a bittering hop. Due to its distinct aroma, the variety is also used to impart flavor and aromatic qualities during dry hopping in beer styles such as IPA, Double IPA, and Imperial Stout.
The right is granted for a limited term: propagation of the variety requires a license from the rights holder.
