Variety description

The variety is an upright deciduous shrub, reaching a height of 1.6 to 3 meters. The plant has lanceolate dark green leaves with a velvety or rough texture, the underside of which has a lighter shade.

The inflorescences have the shape of flat corymbs and include small fertile flowers of violet-blue color, surrounded by larger sterile flowers of white or pale lilac shade. Flowering begins in late summer and continues until autumn.

The plant prefers partial shade and moist, well-drained soils. The shrub is notable for its ability to tolerate alkaline chalky soils, however, in full sun with a lack of moisture, the leaves can scorch. The plant needs protection from strong winds and late spring frosts.
