The Taiwan Pink variety, also known as Hydrangea aspera 'Taiwan' or a representative of the Kawakamii group, is a vigorously growing plant. The shrub is distinguished by the characteristic pubescence of the branches, stems, and leaves, which have a gray tint.

The plant tends to spread widely, reaching up to 3 meters in height and up to 7 meters in width, although specimens 150–200 cm tall are found. The inflorescences include lilac fertile flowers in the center and white or lilac marginal sterile flowers.

Flowering occurs late, from July to September. The shrub requires dappled shade, drained soils, and regular watering. The plant is winter-hardy, but sensitive to late spring frosts.
