The shrub reaches a height of 1.2–1.5 m and possesses characteristic strong dark red shoots. The leaves are oblong, narrow-ovate, dark green with a reddish tint.
The inflorescences are panicles 15–20 cm long, consisting mainly of fertile flowers. Flowering begins in mid-June and lasts until September. The variety is winter-hardy, prefers well-drained slightly acidic or neutral soils, and requires protection from the wind.
Used in ornamental landscaping for solitary and group plantings, and is also suitable for cutting.
