The plant reaches a height of 1.2–1.6 m and a width of 1.2–1.8 m. Lacecap-type inflorescences consist of small central fertile flowers surrounded by larger sterile ones. The color varies from blue in acidic soils to pink. The foliage is green.
Flowering lasts from early summer to autumn. The variety is considered sufficiently winter hardy, but requires protection from spring frosts. The plant is used in landscape design as a solitaire, in mass plantings, borders, and for container cultivation; it is also suitable for cutting.
In literature, the variety is classified as Hydrangea serrata or Hydrangea macrophylla, displaying characteristics intermediate between these species.
