Variety description

Compact deciduous shrub 1.0–1.5 m in height with a comparable crown width. A key distinctive feature of the variety is the dark purple, almost black color of the shoots and leaf petioles. The leaves are green, serrated, and may acquire a purple tint in the sun.

Inflorescences are flat, lace-cap type, consisting of small fertile flowers in the center and large sterile ones along the edge. The color of the flowers varies from pink to blue and purple depending on soil pH. Flowering lasts from the end of May to September.

The plant belongs to USDA hardiness zones 6–9 and withstands temperatures down to -18°C. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and locations with diffused light.
