The plant has a compact form and an upright growth type. The small foliage acquires a deep burgundy shade toward the end of the summer period. The inflorescences are of the "lacecap" type and contain double flowers; long pedicels create a specific visual effect of arrangement around the central part. Inflorescence color varies from pink to blue depending on the composition and acidity of the soil.

The variety blooms in summer, beginning this process earlier than Hydrangea macrophylla. The plant possesses winter hardiness within USDA zones 6–9 (down to -29° C). The shrub requires moderately moist, fertile, and drained soils. In landscape design, it is used for creating compositions and borders, and is also suitable for cultivation in containers.
