The plant is a shrub with a height of 100 to 150 cm (sometimes up to 2 meters) with a dense upright crown of spherical or rounded shape. The leaves are dark green, ovate-elongated, with a serrated edge, turning a rich crimson or burgundy shade in autumn. The shoots are strong and straight.
The inflorescences are of the lacecap type, consisting of central fertile and marginal sterile double flowers. The color of the flowers varies from purple or blue on acidic soils to pink on alkaline ones. Flowering lasts from June to early autumn or October.
The variety belongs to USDA hardiness zones 6–9 and requires covering in cold regions. The plant prefers partial shade, well-drained humic soils and regular watering, as it is sensitive to drought. Resistance to urban conditions is noted.
