The Elstar Krings variety is a clone of the Dutch variety Elstar, obtained by crossing the Golden Delicious and Ingrid Marie varieties. The main difference of the clone lies in the intensity of the fruit skin coloration.

The plant belongs to autumn or late autumn varieties with a ripening period in mid-September. The trees have an upright, broad growth habit and reach a height of about 4 meters. The fruits have juicy and aromatic flesh with a sweet-and-sour taste.
