The variety is an ancient folk heritage, known in the Apennines since antiquity under various synonyms, including Diacciata, Lemonella, and Gelata. The fruits are medium-sized with white flesh; their name indicates a glassy or oily shade of the skin.

The plant is adapted to the Mediterranean climate and is resistant to diseases. The fruits possess good flavor qualities and are capable of storage during the winter period without special refrigeration units. The variety is used both for fresh consumption and for processing.
