The variety was obtained in Canada from seeds of the McIntosh variety. The tree is characterized by medium vigor and forms a rounded or spreading crown. Bearing begins 3–4 years after planting; the variety is noted for winter hardiness and high annual yield.

Fruits are medium-sized, weighing about 110 g, oblate-round in shape, often ribbed. The primary skin color is yellowish; upon ripening, a raspberry or bright red blush appears, sometimes with stripes. The flesh is tender, juicy, greenish or whitish in hue, and the taste is sweet-and-sour and aromatic.

The variety is classified as a dessert apple and is intended for fresh consumption. Fruits ripen in mid-September and can be stored until December.
