Josegold is a clone of the Jonagold variety, which was obtained by crossing Jonathan and Golden Delicious. Genetic studies using SNP markers confirm that Josegold belongs to the group of Jonagold mutants that have an identical profile.

As a clone of the original variety, Josegold inherits its main morphological characteristics. The trees are characterized by vigorous growth and form a rather thin crown. The fruits are characterized by their large size, juicy cream-white flesh, and the taste qualities inherent to the Jonagold group.

The original variety is triploid, and it is characterized by late and prolonged flowering. Available sources contain no information regarding specific differences of Josegold from other Jonagold clones, such as unique ripening periods or disease resistance indices.
