The Jonica variety is a clone of the Jonagold group. The fruits possess a yellow ground color with dull red stripes covering from 30 to 80% of the surface, and the fruit skin becomes greasy upon ripening.

The variety is used in intensive cultivation systems employing spindle and super-spindle forms. The fruits are sensitive to mechanical damage during transport and sorting, and the variety itself does not possess genetic resistance to apple scab.
