The tree is moderately vigorous with a spreading crown, bearing fruit on spurs. Fruits are medium to large in size, round-conical in shape, and often ribbed. The ground color of the skin is yellow with an intense orange-red blush or stripes and reticulate russeting. The flesh is light cream-colored, firm, crisp, and very juicy.

The variety is late-maturing; harvest maturity of the fruits occurs in the period from late August to October. The fruits possess a complex sweet aroma and store until January–February. The plant is characterized by resistance to scab and powdery mildew, but is sensitive to wet soils and prone to infection by Nectria canker.

Kidd’s Orange Red is a self-infertile variety requiring the presence of pollinators for fruit set. To maintain the quality and size of the fruits, it is recommended to thin the ovaries.
