The Kosmač group varieties are traditional or autochthonous to Slovenia and are grown in orchards for the preservation of genetic resources. The most well-known representative, Boskopski kosmač, is characterized by very vigorous growth and is a triploid variety.
Boskopski kosmač fruits are large, with rough, thick skin covered in a characteristic russeting. The flesh has a yellowish color, is juicy and aromatic, and the taste is acidic. The variety matures in the period from late summer to autumn-winter and exhibits high susceptibility to apple scab.
