The variety is a result of folk selection and is historically adapted to the climatic conditions of the Balearic Islands. Due to its ripening periods, this variety is often used as a control when studying harvest periods.

In the mid-20th century, the variety lost its commercial significance due to competition with foreign varieties. Now, efforts for its maintenance are focused on the preservation of genetic resources and traditional qualities within the framework of regional biodiversity protection programs.
