The variety is known as Renet muskatny and has many historical names, including Fail-Me-Never, Kleine Granat-Reinette, Mapgil Hook, Maegille, Monymusk, Muscate, Muscateller Reinette, Neverfail, Reinette douce de France, Reinette douce musquée, Renet Muscus, Small Ribston, Sucrée d'hiver.

The variety is a dessert type and is valued for the high taste quality of its fruits. Due to the fact that it is a landrace variety, exact modern agronomic indicators, such as tree height or disease resistance, are not provided in standardized reference books.
