The fruits are small or medium in size, often of irregular shape. The primary skin color is lemon-yellow with an intense brownish-red marbled blush and characteristic russeting. The fruits have a deep stalk cavity and a long calyx tube; the flesh is yellowish-white in color.

The variety is classified as late summer to early winter: the fruits ripen from the end of September to mid-October, reaching consumer maturity in November. The fruits are distinguished by good keeping quality, retaining their properties until March. The variety is considered relatively resistant to diseases and is used for fresh consumption and processing.

The variety is an ancestor of the Cox's Orange Pippin variety. Historically, the sugar content in the fruit juice was estimated at 13.6% with an acidity of 0.62%. It has many synonyms, including Margil and Gewürzrenette.
