The variety originated in the city of Lahti and began to be propagated by nurseryman Onni Liipola in 1902. The variety received its name in honor of the Osmolan taimisto nursery.
This variety belongs to winter dessert apples. The fruits are distinguished by their ability for long-term storage, for example, in peat, and have a sweet taste. Trees are successfully cultivated in the I–V hardiness zones of Finland.
