The PODERE PIANACCE apple tree is an ancient local variety that was discovered and preserved within the framework of biodiversity research in the Siena region. The variety is a product of folk breeding and has no relation to modern methods of developing new crops.

The fruits of this variety show high pectin content, significantly exceeding the concentration of these substances in common commercial varieties such as Red Delicious and Golden Delicious. At present, the variety is considered a functional food product; however, detailed agronomic characteristics of the tree, ripening periods, and disease resistance indicators are absent in publications.
