The variety is a traditional cultivar whose exact origin is unknown. Trees are often found in old orchards and are generally high-trunk forms.

The fruits are large, flattened in shape, with bright coloration. Ripening occurs in the first half of October; the fruits are suitable for consumption from November until spring. With long-term storage, the fruit flesh is prone to becoming mealy.
