The variety is of Transylvanian origin and is also found in cultivation in the Transcarpathian region. There are several local variations that differ in the color and taste nuances of the fruits, such as Zöld batul, Piros batul, and Édes batul.

Fruits ripen in late September — October, and their consumption period lasts from December to March or May. The variety is intended for home gardening and is characterized as refreshing, with a sweet-and-sour taste and a light spicy note.
