The Belle de Furnes variety was grown in the area of the city of Furnes since at least the beginning of the 19th century. Genetic studies have confirmed the identity of this variety with the Melkappel and Wasappel apple trees.

The fruits of the variety are characterized by a white-yellow color. At present, the variety is considered rare and is under threat of extinction.
