The tree is noted for its strong growth and forms an extensive, wide crown with powerful branches. The variety is triploid, which makes its pollen unsuitable for pollinating other apple trees. Yield is high, but biennial bearing often occurs. Flowering occurs relatively late, which reduces the risk of damage from spring frosts.
The fruits are large or very large, round or flat-round in shape, and often uneven. The skin is smooth, turning golden yellow upon ripening with a bright red or marbled blush. The flesh is yellowish-white, aromatic, and has a sweet taste with a slight acidity and spicy notes.
The variety is undemanding regarding soil conditions, preferring moist and nutrient-rich soils. It possesses good overall winter hardiness, although the wood may be sensitive to severe frosts. A susceptibility to powdery mildew and fruit tree canker is noted.
