The variety is very old; the first mentions of it date back to the 18th century. Due to its wide distribution in Europe, it has received many regional names, one of which is Roter Apolloapfel.

The medium-sized fruits have a characteristic angular shape, smooth greasy skin with a waxy bloom, and a color ranging from yellow-green to bright wine-red. The flesh is moderately juicy, with a pleasant spicy sweet-and-sour taste and a possible reddish tint under the skin.

The plant is characterized by reliability and low sensitivity to frost, which allows it to be grown in various climatic conditions, including high-altitude areas. The variety is valued for the decorative nature of its flowering, which is accompanied by large pink flowers.
