The variety is presumably of Saxon origin and is known by the synonyms Hauptmannsapfel, Roter Hauptmann, Roter Weihnachtsapfel, and Hauptmannovo cervene. It became widely distributed before 1900.
The tree is very vigorous with an upright growth habit and is characterized by its undemanding nature, high winter hardiness, and general resistance. It is suitable for cultivation in difficult climatic conditions.
The fruits are large, red-yellow in color, with juicy and tender flesh. In terms of ripening and consumption, the variety is classified as winter; harvest maturity occurs from October to December, and the keeping quality of the fruits is low.
