The variety is a product of folk breeding, preserved thanks to local nurseries and enthusiasts. The fruits are distinguished by a higher content of vitamin C and mineral salts compared to a number of commercial varieties.

The plant possesses increased tolerance to scab and powdery mildew. To obtain virus-free planting material, a sanitation procedure using thermotherapy was performed, as old trees are often susceptible to latent viruses.
