RUGIADA is a mutant sport of the apple variety Golden Delicious. The key feature of the clone is the fruit surface phenotype: unlike the smooth skin of the original variety, RUGIADA fruits are characterized by heavy russeting, roughness, and the presence of micro-cracks.

These changes in the surface are due to a disruption in the formation of the fruit cuticle, where suberin and lignin are deposited. The clone is not intended for commercial horticulture and is used in biological research to study the mechanisms of russeting and triterpene metabolism.
