Annero is a local Swedish variety traditionally associated with the Södermanland province. Genetic studies have established the identity of this variety with the Alexander variety, which suggests they are related forms or the same variety.
Within the framework of studying resistance to fire blight (Erwinia amylovora), the variety demonstrated a high degree of tolerance. The variety is included in the 'mandatsort' register, subject to preservation as a historical genetic resource for amateur gardening and local production.
