The tree reaches a height of 4–6 meters and has a rounded crown shape. The leaves are dark green with a glossy sheen, and a purple tint appears when they unfurl. Flowering occurs in May with pink or pink-purple flowers.
The fruits are small, orange-red or purple with a glaucous bloom, ripen by September, and serve as food for birds. The variety is characterized as winter-hardy, but is susceptible to diseases such as scab, powdery mildew, rust, fire blight, and leaf spot.
