The tree reaches 4–6 meters in height and possesses a wide ascending crown, which becomes rounded with age. Oval leaves have a purple hue when budding, gradually changing color to bronze-green. Flowering occurs in mid-spring; flowers are large, simple, of a saturated pink-red color, often with a light center.

Fruits are small, 1,5–2 cm in diameter, spherical, orange-red or red in color, ripening in autumn and remaining on the branches for a long time. The plant is photophilous, prefers well-drained nutritious soils, and is resistant to urban air pollution, although it tolerates sea winds poorly.

The variety possesses high winter hardiness, withstanding temperatures down to -40 °C. It is characterized by periodic fruiting and high sensitivity to scab, powdery mildew, and fire blight, due to which it may lose its ornamental appearance by the end of the season.
