Malus baccata 'Gracilis' is a small tree from 5 to 8 meters tall with characteristic drooping branches and small leaves on long petioles. The plant is distinguished by abundant flowering in May with large flowers with dark carmine buds.
The fruits are small, about 1 cm in diameter, light carmine or purple-pink in color. Fresh, they are inedible due to high acidity and astringency, but they remain on the branches for a long time, sometimes persisting until winter. The species has high winter hardiness.
