The variety is a spontaneous somatic mutation of the Red Delicious variety. Trees are vigorous; the crown is narrowly pyramidal at a young age, becoming nearly spherical with age. Precocity is medium; yield is high and annual.
Fruits are large, with a weight of 170–210 g, round-conical in shape with pronounced ribbing. The ground color is yellow; the overcolor is intense carmine-red with a crimson tint and distinct streaks. The flesh is cream-colored, firm, juicy, fine-grained, with a sweet spicy flavor almost devoid of acid.
The variety is for dessert use, distinguished by good fruit keeping quality until May. It possesses low winter hardiness and poor drought tolerance, and is severely affected by scab.
