The rootstock was developed at the Institute for Fruit Research in Dresden-Pillnitz. In terms of vigor, it is comparable to or slightly exceeds the M9 rootstock. It promotes early bearing in grafted varieties, contributes to high yields, and reduces biennial bearing.
This rootstock influences tree morphology, promoting the formation of short fruiting spurs and a more horizontal arrangement of scaffold branches. Plants on this rootstock demonstrate better competitiveness against weeds and grasses compared to the M9 rootstock.
Supporter 2 is used for apple cultivation, including in organic farming conditions that require high plant adaptability while limiting the use of chemical agents.
