The rootstock was developed at the Institute of Fruit Culture in Pillnitz in 1997. Genetically, it is the result of a cross between the well-known dwarf rootstock M.9 and the species Malus baccata.
In terms of its effect on the scion, this rootstock is classified as dwarf or semi-dwarf and is comparable to M.9 clones. The development of the Supporter series was carried out within the framework of breeding programs focused, among other things, on increasing resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew.
