Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is of ancient origin from the Greek regions of Messenia and Laconia. The trees are characterized by high growth vigor, a tendency to form a "climbing" crown, and large, dark-green, lanceolate leaves. The fruits are large, heavy, and of an elongated asymmetrical shape.

The plant is primarily of the table type; upon ripening, the fruits acquire a dark purple or almost black color. The variety is partially self-fertile; for better pollination, proximity to other varieties is recommended. The crop ripens late, and harvesting is carried out by hand starting in early November.

The variety is characterized by high productivity with alternate bearing. It possesses resistance to olive knot and the olive fruit fly; however, it is sensitive to low temperatures and susceptible to Verticillium wilt.
