The variety is a medium-sized tree. It is an ancient variety that formed during the process of historical cultivation under the conditions of specific climatic zones of Spain, in particular, in the Badajoz region.

Oil from the fruits of this variety is distinguished by the stability of its composition and intense sensory characteristics. As a table crop, the variety is valued for its specific taste qualities and fruit texture.

The variety name may be used to refer to various local populations depending on the province and in a number of sources acts as a synonym for other regional varieties, such as Picudo or Manzanilla Cacereña.
