The variety is a traditional cultivar of the Campania region. The fruits are characterized by their large size and acquire a dark brown or reddish hue upon ripening. Harvesting is carried out between October and November. The variety is distinguished by relatively low yields.

Oil from Carpellese fruits possesses a balanced taste with moderate bitterness and pungency, as well as aromas of artichoke, almond, field herbs, arugula, and sage. The plant is noted for its longevity, and centuries-old specimens of trees of this variety exist.
