The variety is autochthonous to the Alentejo and Beira Interior regions. The tree habit can vary: there are both vigorous forms with upright branches and less active-growing plants with a medium canopy. The fruits of the variety have a low flesh-to-pit ratio.

The variety is resistant to Verticillium wilt and olive leaf spot, but is vulnerable to olive knot and a number of pests. The plant tolerates drought well, however it is sensitive to waterlogged soil. The fruit detachment force may vary depending on the local ecotype.

The oil obtained from this variety is distinguished by a fruity flavor with a slight bitterness and is used both independently and as part of regional blends.
