The variety is an indigenous Portuguese plant, distributed mainly in the Alentejo and Beira Interior regions. The fruits are of small or medium size, with a count per kilogram ranging from 227 to 500.
The variety is considered dual-purpose; the fruits are suitable both for producing high-quality oil rich in antioxidants and for table use. In the central regions of Portugal, the optimal harvest period falls in the first half of November.
The plant is valued as a blending component in the creation of premium oils. In literature, the variety is sometimes described as demanding in terms of growing conditions, and it is important to distinguish it from the Spanish variety Carrasqueño.
