The Gaidourelia variety is also known by the synonym Damaskinoelia. The name is often used as a collective term for a group of large-fruited Greek olives; it is sometimes applied to the Chalkidiki variety due to fruit size. The scientific name of the variety is sometimes indicated as Olea europaea var. macrocarpa.
The fruits are distinguished by firm flesh and a strong aroma, belonging to the category of large-fruited varieties. Studies confirm that they possess some of the highest indicators of volume and surface area, both for the fruit flesh itself and the endocarp, among the studied Greek cultivars.
