The Galani variety (also known as Galani Metaggitsiou) is a traditional local variety, cultivated for many generations in the area of the village of Metaggitsi. The variety received its name due to the characteristic light blue shade of its foliage. Synonyms for the variety name include Strongylolia, Prasinolia, Strogylorachati, and Milolia.

The olive belongs to dual-purpose varieties, however, it is most often used for producing olive oil. The oil is characterized as delicate and balanced, with a slight sweetish aftertaste and aromas of freshly cut grass or red berries, distinguished by a low acidity level and a high content of polyphenols.
