The Tanche tree is characterized by medium vigor and a spreading crown with elliptical leaves. The fruits, weighing 5–6 g, have a spherical, slightly asymmetrical shape and acquire a black or dark purple hue at the stage of full maturity.

The variety is self-sterile and is valued for its versatility: it is used for both oil production and table purposes due to its mild taste with nutty notes. Harvesting takes place between November and January.

The plant is well-adapted to local conditions with dry winters, but it does not perform well under cultivation outside of its native regions. The variety is susceptible to olive fruit fly infestation and fungal diseases.
